What to Expect
As a visitor at the Orange Street church of Christ, you can expect a warm welcome. We will never put you on the spot or pressure you to do anything that you might be uncomfortable with. As you enter, you can expect to find the bulletin and other reading materials in the foyer. When you enter the auditorium, feel free to sit wherever you are comfortable, there are no assigned seats.
Before worship begins, there will be announcements, and an overview of who will be leading which aspect of worship.
During our worship we will be led in congregational singing – we hope that you will join in with us. You will notice that we do not use mechanical instruments. We believe the only music which God has authorized for the worship of New Testament church is vocal music (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16). We will also partake of the Lord’s Supper. This is something we do each week. We do not practice closed communion but understand the decision to take or not to take the Lord’s Supper to be an individual matter (1 Cor. 11:28). You are welcome to participate if you choose. We will also pass a plate for our members to contribute funds for the work of the church. If you are visiting with us, we do not expect you to contribute but if you wish, you may.
There will also be prayers offered during our worship. We do not have set prayers, but men will guide the congregation in prayer using words from their own heart. At some point in the worship, local preacher or some other qualified man will present a lesson from God’s Word, the Bible. We encourage you to be like those of ancient Berea, who referred to the Scriptures to see if what was being said was biblically correct.
As the lesson comes to a close the one preaching will likely extend an invitation to any who desire to become a New Testament Christian and to any who may have a public sin which they may need to confess (James 5:16).
After the worship service is over you will notice that most are not in a hurry to leave but will visit with each other. We encourage you to remain as well so that we may get to know you.
